BIOGRAPHY

Georgian folk music is world-famous and has been included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. The Jazz singer Teona Mosia presents both pre-Christian pagan and gentle lyrical songs from western and northern Georgia, as well as yodeling and dance rhythms from southern Georgia, urban folklore from the capital Tbilisi and oriental music from eastern Georgia.

Influenced by the musical heritage of her home country, she presents traditional Georgian folk songs as well as jazz standards - from soulful ballads to virtuoso interpretations of well-known jazz compositions reminiscent of world music. Teona combines the two genres in a very fascinating and expressive way and has developed a unique sound with her music, which is very much characterized by her powerful voice, her temperament and her wonderful musicality. She enchants the audience with Georgian songs, which she gives a jazzy charm to.

Teona Mosia was born in Georgia (1978) and grew up with the folk music of her homeland. She later discovered jazz improvisation and while studying in the jazz department at the Prayner Conservatory in Vienna (graduated in 2014, prof. Matilda Leko), she deepened her knowledge and skills in this area. Since 2018 she has been a teacher of jazz singing at the Prayner Conservatory. She has also been leading the children's music project “Rimtiri Jazz” since 2017, that introduces children to jazz from an early age. Teona Mosia is the artistic director and voice in a new music project and jazz band “Trio Chinka”, which has been created in collaboration with the Serbian pianist Nikola Stanosevic and Vienna-based musician & Bass player Hannes Laszakovits (w/ Croatian, Hungarian, and some Czech roots). The international line-up of the "Trio Chinka" brings the traditional music of Georgia into today. The repertoire includes musical arrangements and powerful rhythms of mystical and lyrical sounds from Georgia, as well as newly interpreted jazz standards.
